Practical Guide: Peptide Reconstitution and Storage
1 min read

Lyophilized peptides are stable during transport at room temperature, but their long-term storage requires specific precautions.
BEFORE RECONSTITUTION
- Optimal storage: -20°C (standard freezer)
- Shelf life: up to 24 months
- Absolutely avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles
- Protect from moisture and direct light
RECONSTITUTION For most water-soluble peptides:
- Use bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol)
- Add the solvent gently along the vial wall
- Let dissolve naturally - do not shake vigorously
- Wait 5-10 minutes for the solution to be homogeneous
For hydrophobic peptides (containing lots of Leu, Ile, Val, Met, Phe):
- Pre-dissolve in 10% acetic acid or DMSO
- Then dilute with bacteriostatic water
AFTER RECONSTITUTION
- Storage at 4°C: 2 to 4 weeks maximum
- Storage at -20°C in aliquots: several months
- Always use sterile equipment
- Note the reconstitution date on the vial
A degraded peptide gradually loses its effectiveness without visible signs. When in doubt, a new batch is preferable.
